When the Wall Becomes the Exhibition

How Facet shaped the “Future Now!” experience for Mercedes-Benz in Bremen

For the “Future Now!” exhibition at the Mercedes-Benz Kundencenter in Bremen, the wall was never meant to disappear into the background. Conceived by Spek Design, the exhibition called for a surface that could carry narrative weight — one that would respond to curiosity, reveal imagery in layers, and draw visitors physically into the space. Facet, Bloomming’s modular wall system, became that surface.
At the heart of the installation stands a visionary Mercedes-Benz research vehicle, surrounded by a stylised skyline of Bremen where the familiar blends with the imagined. Rather than guiding visitors along a fixed path, the exhibition invites exploration — and Facet makes that possible. Its crystalline, modular panels shape sightlines and movement throughout the space, while subtle openings in the faceted surface reveal carefully positioned imagery behind the wall. Touch it, shift your angle, and what you see changes.

A tactile exhibition experience

Facet introduces something rare in exhibition design: a wall that invites physical engagement. Visitors are naturally drawn toward the faceted surface, where the geometry creates a rhythm across the space — neither uniform nor random, but quietly alive. Subtle openings in the structure reveal imagery positioned behind the wall, so that what a visitor sees depends on where they stand and how they move.

The result is an environment that feels layered, immersive and continuously changing. Light catches differently at every angle. Transparency shifts. Moments of discovery emerge from unexpected viewpoints. Rather than functioning as a static backdrop, the wall becomes part of the narrative itself — a surface that thinks, responds and rewards curiosity.

A modular wall system for exhibition design

What makes Facet particularly well-suited to exhibition environments is its complete freedom of composition. The modular system adapts to any spatial configuration, forming custom layouts that define movement, control sightlines and set atmosphere — without a single fixed constraint.
For the “Future Now!” installation, this flexibility was essential. Spek Design developed a free-form layout that wraps the exhibition space in a continuous crystalline surface, integrating seamlessly with the futuristic visual language of Mercedes-Benz. The geometry of Facet echoes the progressive character of the concept vehicle itself — creating a cohesive dialogue between object, architecture and exhibition narrative that feels considered rather than coincidental.

Designed by Spek Design

Spek Design is known for creating exhibition environments that balance storytelling with spatial intelligence. For “Future Now!”, the studio transformed a showroom into a world — layering imagery, tactile surfaces and modular architecture into an experience that feels both visionary and accessible. Facet was central to that transformation, providing the structural and visual language that holds the entire space together.
