Subtle separation in a small-scale interior

For the entrance of this private apartment in Vienna, the client was looking for a way to introduce privacy without closing off the space. The entrance opens directly into the living area, making a solid wall or cabinet feel too heavy for the proportions of the apartment. The chosen solution was a small room divider screen, suspended from the ceiling and designed to function as a spatial filter rather than a physical barrier. The result is an entrance that feels defined and intimate, while remaining visually connected to the rest of the interior.

Project: Compact apartment entrance divider
Location: Vienna, Austria
Client: Private residence

Designed to preserve light, depth and calm

What makes this divider particularly suitable for compact interiors is its openness. The sculptural pattern is composed of individually rotatable facets, allowing light to pass through while softening sightlines. This creates a sense of privacy at the entrance without sacrificing daylight or spatial depth. Rather than dividing the apartment into separate zones, the divider gently guides movement and perception. From different angles, the transparency shifts — sometimes more open, sometimes more closed — adding a subtle dynamic quality to an otherwise calm interior.

An architectural element

Suspended from the ceiling, the divider has no floor footprint. This keeps the entrance uncluttered and reinforces the architectural character of the solution. Its slim profile allows it to be positioned close to walls or circulation routes, making it especially effective in smaller apartments where every detail must earn its place. In this project, the divider becomes part of the architecture rather than an object placed within it — understated, precise and quietly present.

Color as a considered accent

The client selected Dijon, a warm, muted yellow that brings a gentle sense of character to the otherwise neutral palette. The color adds warmth and individuality without overpowering the space, allowing the divider to act as a focal point while remaining harmonious with the surrounding materials.

Tailored to the space

Each Facet divider is made to measure. Dimensions, suspension lengths and finishes are specified to suit the architecture of the space and the wishes of the client. This flexibility allows interior architects and private homeowners alike to apply the system in compact entrances, open-plan living areas or transitional zones throughout the home. Installation is straightforward, using refined suspensions in brushed stainless steel. The divider can be mounted as a fixed installation or combined with a dedicated rail system when movement is desired.

This Vienna apartment illustrates how a carefully designed room divider can add privacy, rhythm and atmosphere to a small space — without compromising light, openness or architectural clarity.
